Activities:

Introduce the lesson by showing the video (YouTube) “King Midas and the Golden Touch—A Greek Tale”.  Discuss with students how the king was greedy and wanted more.  Connect this to RCC pg. 106 & 107. Complete Quick Write on p. 107 in  journals.

Read “The Treasure” in RCC as a close read.  Complete as a 3-read—teacher read, interactive read, partner/independent read.  Volunteers act out play with expression and emotion.  Complete chart on p. 109 with partners.  Complete writing response on p. 112 as a whole class, modeling how to include character traits using details from the story.

Review how character motivations and actions affect a story.  Read  “Robin Hood and the Wonderful Knight” in RCC, p. 114.  Read play twice, with different students as different characters each read aloud.  Complete p. 117 in partners, discuss correct answers.
