Classroom Procedures & Employability

Grade 6 Classroom Procedures

 

Note: Individual teachers may have additional classroom procedures.

 

1. Lineup outside classroom

Line up single file in designated area without talking (Level 0)

Do not enter classroom until teacher signals (never enter a classroom if the teacher is not present)

2. Entering the classroom

Enter room without talking (Level 0) & walk to assigned seat

Place your materials for class on desk

Place other belongings under seat

Begin Bell Ringer

3. Sharpening pencil

Sharpen pencil immediately upon entering classroom

4.  If you need to exit your seat: Use HAND SIGNALS and wait for permission

1 finger:  PENCIL

2 fingers:  NURSE

3 fingers:  RESTROOM

4 fingers:  TISSUE OR HAND SANITIZER

5. When you need a pencil or paper

             EMPLOYABILITY SIGN-OUT

Ask at the beginning of the class

Return pencil at the end of class

6. Getting materials without disturbing others

Quietly walk directly to where the materials are located, get materials, return to seat, and continue work

7. Coming to attention

            GIVE ME 5-----COUNTDOWN----- 5 SECONDS OR LESS

Stop talking (Talking Level 0) Look at the teacher

Listen for instructions & continue working when instructed

8. Asking a question/participating in class discussions

Raise your hand and wait to be called on

Ask your question or give your comment

9. If you finish early or study time

Finish any missing assignments for current class

Study content terms, review/revise previous assignments

10. End of class dismissal

The teacher dismisses the class (not clock/bell)

Push in your chair and put materials away quietly

Exit when your group is dismissed

 

11. During school-wide or class announcements

Talking Level 0

Listen to the announcement; then continue working

12. When visitors are in the classroom

Continue with your work

Be polite to the guest and answer questions if asked

13. If the teacher is out of the classroom

Quietly continue with your work

            Maintain the classroom guideline and procedures

14. Walking in the hallway during class time

Talking Level 0

Quietly line-up single-file in the classroom

Proceed out the door, in a single-file line, on right side of the hallway

Listen for instructions while walking in the hallway

Stop and wait outside the destination until you have permission to enter

15. When you are absent

You are responsible for missing work

Check folder, check with neighbor or teacher

16. If you think you will be sick

Get the trashcan and hold it under your mouth while you walk to the bathroom

17. Responding to drills

Talking Level 0

Go to designated area listen for instructions

 

18. Talking Levels

  4. GROUP TALK
  5. PRESENTATION

REWARD ACTIVITIES

REWARD CRITERIA

  • No more than 10 infractions on VIP card in 9 week period
  • RCMS Employability Rubric Score of 2 or 3
  • Attendance 90% or higher per quarter
  • Good behavior ( discipline referrals)

Am I Employable Right Now?

 

Motivation 

  1. On time to class.
  2. On task--listening to and following instructions the first time given.
  3. Work on assignment diligently exhibiting positive classroom behavior.

(Infractions include: tardiness, shouting out answers, talking during assignments or instruction, requiring multiple prompts to get started on task, daydreaming/zoning out, making noises, sleeping, being out of assigned seat, making inappropriate gestures, inappropriate use of school equipment)

 

žResourcefulness

  1. Have all materials and resources necessary for class.
  2. Complete any prerequisite work required.
  3. Ask classmates or teachers for assistance whenever needed.

(Infractions include: asking for a pencil during the middle of class, not completing homework, not having classroom notebook or supplies (forgetting at home or in locker), not working because assistance is needed (did not ask for help))

 

Professionalism

  1. Use respectful and appropriate language (including body language) in any given situation.
  2. Use electronic devices appropriately: refraining from use when devices are unnecessary.
  3. Willing to work with anyone (classmate, teacher, community member) to get the job done.

(Infractions include: cell phone out without permission, cheating, being on an inappropriate website or different website than assigned, inappropriate language, not willing to work with assigned peers, blatant disrespect)
