Instructional Activities Each Day:

Introduce the learning target.  Then introduce the artist Frieda Kahlo.  Using Google Slides, show photos of Kahlo as a child and adult. Then play the read aloud, I am Frieda Kahlo.  Discuss how she overcame obstacles in her life.  Talk about how she started drawing self portraits when she was in the hospital with her special easel. Give each student a template of a face with light guidelines to help them see where to draw their eyes, nose and mouth.  Model how to draw the facial features and add hair.  Model how to draw a background of green plant life.  

Materials: Google slides, drawing paper, crayons, pencils, face template

 

First Grade:
