"What nobler employment, or more valuable to the state, than that of the man or woman who instructs the rising generation?"  --Marcus T. Cicero

Hello!

Welcome to my Web page and welcome to the 2021-22 school year!

My name is Mrs. Haney and I teach special education in 6th, 7th and 8th grades.  I am beginning my 31st year in education.  I have taught Kindergarten through 12th grade and also college classes. The middle school environment has been home to me for the last eight years, and it really is my niche.  I love this age!

A bit about me.....

I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Social Work, a Masters Degree in Adult and Higher Education and a Masters degree and Rank I in Special Education P-12 in both Moderate and Severe Disabilities and Learning and Behavior Disorders.  I am a Master Teacher through the Kentucky Education Development Center, meaning that my classroom and my teaching strategies are observed by, and I serve as a mentor to, new special education teachers in our region.  I am actively involved with the KY Commission for Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Hands and Voices, American Society for Deaf Children, a regional Autism Cadre, a regional Master Teacher cadre, and the Down Syndrome Society.  I am a parent coach through a project at University of Kentucky, advocating and assisting parents with children with hearing loss.  Additionally, American Sign Language is utilized in my classroom on a daily basis as a supplemental communication for all.

I am married to Greg Haney.  I have three children, Beth (husband Jared), Gabe (wife Shelby), and Chloe (Nursing major at MSU).  We are also grandparents to Jackson, Macy, and Elijah!  I enjoy family time, quilting, and being with my friends.

I have a very open door policy and believe that children will best succeed if those doors of communication remain open.  I may be reached by email at michelle.haney@rowan.kyschools.us or by phone at 606-784-8911.  I will return all emails or calls once the school day is over.

We maintain a full schedule in our classroom teaching toward IEP goals, teaching functional daily living skills, and instructing the core curriculum.  It's a joy to spend my career watching my students meet their goals!

**The entire unit staff is trained and certified by the American Heart Association on CPR, AED, and First Aid.

**As we begin to plan for the beginning of the school year, I will be updating my pages on this website.  Check back for the updates.
